I saw Deepika Padukone's short film today, "My Choice". Directed by Homi Adajania. This film says that females should make their own choices. Choice of "having sex before marriage" , "having sex outside marriage", "to have a baby or not". This movie is on women empowerment. My question is- Really? Is this what comes under women empowerment?
For me, women empowerment means Equality between men and women, not that women doing the same wrong deeds as done by some of the men of our society. Women are no less than men, nor more than men.
The message given in the video is totally against my views regarding feminism. This video completely shows false picture of what women empowerment is all about. It is always said, "It is a male dominating society" and we, the women are always trying and fighting for our rights in every field of our society. Today, all that a women demands for is equal justice and rights, not 'a female dominating society' .
Movie says:
It is My Choice
•"To be size zero or size 15"
Girls, size has been always "my choice" . We decide our figure, whether to be size zero or to look fat. It's a matter of personal choice.
•"To marry or not to marry, to have sex before marriage, to have sex outside marriage"
Yes, of course we can make our own decisions. We have the right to decide whether to marry or not to, or to have sex before marriage or not.
But what does this line means "to have sex outside marriage" ? If a guy will have sex outside marriage, his wife will surely not accept him. But when it comes to her, it is "My choice". Right?
•"To come home when I want. Don't be upset if I come home at 4 am, don't be fooled when I come home at 6 pm"
Does this sentence 'dont be fooled when I come home at 6 pm" is simply an open approval of adultery?
And the same liberty and courtesy should be given to males also.
•"Love temporarily or lust forever"
I guess It should be lust temporarily and love must last forever.
•"You are my choice, I m not ur privilege"
In a relationship, boy and girl are each other's choice as well as privilege.
•" My choice, to have a baby or not"
I thought in a relationship, having a baby is a joint responsibility, not an individual's choice.
This film does not promote women empowerment. It promotes women dominance.
I am woman fighting for my rights but that does not means i m losing my virtues, moral values in order to prove myself strong. I don't want to prove myself strong more than males but yes I m not less than them too. My strength will not come by pushing males down. It will come from rising up taking the male society with me.
